It is NOT IMPOSSIBLE

The DEI Career Coach
Andrea G. Tatum

Welcome! I'm Andrea, a dedicated advocate for creating open, welcoming environments where everyone can thrive. With a rich background spanning non-profit arts marketing, product marketing, and DEI leadership in tech giants, I've harnessed my experiences to champion change and inspire progress, and now I’m helping to cultivate and empower the next generation of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) leaders!

A Passion Ignited

My journey into the realm of Diversity and Inclusion began during my tenure in non-profit arts marketing. The spark of passion ignited during this phase propelled me to cultivate diverse audiences, earning me recognition as one of Rolling Out Magazine’s Most Influential Women in Atlanta. After a decade of nurturing inclusivity in the arts, I transitioned my career trajectory.

From Arts to Tech

Stepping into the tech industry while residing in San Francisco, I quickly realized that many of the diversity and exclusion challenges I had addressed in the arts were amplified in this new landscape. I took every opportunity to advocate for DEI, even though it was never part of my job. It was a time of growth and transformation for me and the DEI industry.

A Journey in DEI Leadership

My path led me to roles as a DEI Leader at Tableau and Salesforce, where I developed data-driven strategies, supported employee engagement, and worked across various functions to increase and retain employees from diverse backgrounds. Most recently, I served as the Senior Director of Corporate Equity Engagement at Catalyst. In this role, I became a trusted advisor to over 40 companies, co-created the EDx Course titled "Facing Racism and Emotional Tax in the Workplace," and shared my insights at prominent organizations including Curology, Wells Fargo, Upwork, and Kimberly-Clark.

Guiding the Way Forward

As a seasoned DEI Consultant, my impact extends from Fortune 500 enterprises like Grainger and Starbucks to agile startups such as Mode. The year 2020 marked a significant milestone with the launch of AGT Diversity Consulting’s DEI Career Prep services, now known as the DEI Career Center. Drawing from my personal transition into DEI, my corporate DEI background, and my ongoing client interactions, I provide invaluable insights. These insights empower seasoned professionals enthusiastic about diversity, equity, and inclusion to gain clarity on their transferable skills, dismantle self-doubt, and embark on their DEI journey.

Recognizing the scarcity of information about the everyday reality of DEI practitioners, I sought to amplify transparency. Through my courses, personalized 1:1 coaching, and my YouTube series "DEI Career Conversations," I delve into the intricacies of the work, explore the pros and cons of a DEI role, and emphasize the importance of self-care in a field so intimately tied to our pursuit of equity and inclusion.
